Gucci Celebrates Alessandro Michele’s Curation of ‘A Magazine’ with a Trio of Photo Exhibitions in Asia

by Paige Reddinger

A Magazine‘s most recent collaborator is Gucci’s Alessandro Michele. The fashion magazine is known for choosing a new designer, group, or house to curate each issue. Past collaborators include Thom Browne, Delfina Delettrez, Iris van Herpen, Stephen Jones, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Maison Martin Margiela, Haider Ackermann, Riccardo Tisci, Yohji Yamamoto and more.

To celebrate the issue, Gucci will put on a trio of photography exhibitions in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Taipei this Spring/Summer. Each will feature a different female photographer from each city. Petra Collins, a Michele favorite, will kick off the exhibitions with her series of intimate family portraits shown in Budapest, Hungary, which debuts at Art Basel Hong Kong; Coco Capitán’s handwriting and snapshots of Rome and Florence will be shown in Beijing; and Gia Coppola’s extensive portrait of Joshua Tree will be shown in Taipei. Each exhibition will feature a projection room for guests to immerse themselves in the pages of the magazine in an audio-visual atmosphere that brings the pages to life. In addition to the exhibitions, curated objects and prints based on content from the magazine selected by editor-in-chief and exhibition curator Dan Thawley will be on view.

Below are a selection of Collins’ photographs called “Az én Családom,” or “My Family,” which was styled by Zara Mirkin.
