Well, that was fast. Only a few weeks ago Madewell CEO Jim Brett announced on an earnings call that the popular denim line would finally expand into menswear. At the time it was speculated that the collection would arrive within the year. It turns out it drops today. Surprise!
“Men’s was a logical step for the brand,” said Libby Wadle, the brand’s president. “After two years of incubation, we’re excited to bring our denim expertise and laid-back design sensibility to a new customer where there’s an opening and need in the market for premium quality jeans at an accessible price point.”
Comprised of 38 pieces, the capsule collection includes T-shirts, jackets, and 21 denim styles. There are three different fits: skinny, slim, and straight. Prices start at $115. “Our goal was to make a wearable collection, rooted in denim,” Wadle explained. “These are classic-meets-modern pieces that fit exactly the way our Madewell guy would want them to, in washes that only get better with age.”
In addition to the collection being available online, and in select Nordstrom locations (as well as on Nordstrom’s website), there will be a pop-up shop in Brooklyn. Opening Friday and running thru Sunday at Crest Hardware, customers will be able to shop the capsule, as well as limited-edition products. Congrats, fellas—the Madewell-shaped hole in your lives is finally filled!
