French transplant alert! Gareth Pugh is saying au revoir to Paris Fashion Week and bringing his dark, avant-garde label to New York Fashion Week this September. He’s not simply planning a traditional runway show; he told The New York Times‘ Vanessa Friedman that we should expect an “immersive live performance” instead. That means that Pugh is in discussion with choreographer Wayne McGregor to present his Spring collection with live dancers accompanied by a video. Although the entirety of the collection won’t be complete by the first week in September, it will be available for preview by retailers two weeks after fashion week in New York has wrapped.
Mark those calendars for September 4th, since this seems like a pretty unmissable fash circuit moment, non? Especially since Pugh’s NYC showing might be a onetime thing; he told the Times that Paris Fashion Week’s organizing body, Chambre Syndicale, is holding a spot for his show to return for the Fall 2015 season. People are still talking about Rick Owen‘s unexpected step team at last September; expect Pugh’s show to garner a similar buzz.
