Vera Wang Spring/Summer 2017

by The Daily Front Row

Oh la la! Vera Wang‘s show opened with a series of skin-baring hot pants and off-the-shoulder bustier crop-tops. These will be a hit with the jet-setting photo-op hungry PYT celebs or anyone as slender as Wang herself. But what about those of us that might actually have to pay to wear these pieces? Only a very few percentage of those still at midriff bearing age could afford a Vera Wang ensemble to hit the clubs and where else would you wear these looks? Proportions throughout the show went from restrained in looks with cinch-waist peplum pieces and body-con numbers to enormously oversized bell skirts and bomber jackets not unlike looks shown on Marc Jacobs’ runway last season.

The looks that did stand out however, were the pearl encrusted pieces. Even so, how might a lady sit in one of these looks without popping the pearls off or being very, very uncomfortable and hundreds of pearls dig into her backside? Wedding dresses are Vera Wang’s bread and butter, which are meant for one-time wear and, on the whole, are never meant to be comfortable. Ready-to-wear isn’t always meant to be practical, but in the end it is supposed to be mostly wearable.
