Stella McCartney is independent no longer. According to Business of Fashion the designer has signed a deal with LVMH. Specific details of the partnership have yet to be announced.
The news comes over a year after McCartney bought her brand back from LVMH’s rival, Kering. For 17 years Kering held a 50 percent stake in McCartney’s brand. The original contract featured a long-standing clause giving her the option to purchase the company’s stake in her brand. But she had to exercise that option by March 31 of 2018, or potentially lose it forever. At the time of the Kering separation it was unclear how McCartney would finance buying out her half of the brand.
UPDATE: Business of Fashion reports that McCartney will not only retain majority ownership, she will also stay on as creative director. More details of the deal will be released in September.
