Roland Mouret Fall 2015

by Dena Silver

What’s black, white, peppered with busy prints, and interspersed with bright pops of color? That would be Roland Mouret‘s go at appealing to the younger style set. While his lifelong quest to flatter the woman’s body was definitely still present, thanks to studded waist belts and figure-skimming shapes, this season was a departure for the designer. While his usual pencil skirt shape was still here, there was also a new silhouette: the A-line skirt. It came in all sorts of iterations, sporting inverted pleats, box pleats, and beyond. But the pairings with skirts were the most intricate, usually composed of geometrically pieced-together tops, some layered over a sheer knit, offering up a romantic feeling. All the looks were tied together, in a package fitting for a pretty young thing, with loose and simple hair, minimal makeup, and kicky ankle boots detailed with a bold zipper.
