Recording Artist Bebe Rexha on Her Design Debut

by Sydney Sadick

Chances are, Bebe Rexha’s chart-topping hits have been stuck in your head this summer, like “I Got You,” “In the Name of Love,” and “The Way I Are.” Now, the born-and-bred NYC recording artist is tapping into fashion with the launch of her debut collection of one-of-a-kind bomber jackets with Gilt, which are already selling out! The fierce and spunky 27-year-old blonde fills us in!

Bebe, when did fashion become an interest of yours?
I’ve loved fashion ever since I was a kid. Gilt gave me the opportunity to explore the fashion designer in me to help create these one-of-a-kind handcrafted jackets. I’m definitely a jacket girl. I grew up in New York where it’s all about your jacket or coat in the winter because it’s too cold outside to show any of the other clothes you’re wearing.

Why did you decide to team up with Gilt?
Gilt is known for launching different capsule collections for its members, so when I sat down with them and we spoke about my upcoming project, “All Your Fault Pt: 2,” and ideas on how to launch it in a bigger way, it was a natural fit. Gilt continually creates exclusive collaborations and interesting products as part of its focus for its customers and that was something that stuck out to me. They were a great partner and really helped create what I envisioned while also guiding me through the process.

How many bomber jackets do you own?
Too many to count! I love jackets, and always try and wear one with my outfit even if my stylist says no.

Are you still living in NYC?
I mostly live in L..A now, but spend as much time in New York as possible since my family is still there. In New York I love Serafina, Joli Beauty Bar, Dazzling Lash Bar, and Rao’s.

How do you describe your style?
Fun, flirty, and comfortable.

Tell us about your new album that’s coming out.
I can’t wait for fans to hear “All Your Fault PT: 2” on August 11! There are so many great featured artists on it—Gucci Mane, Lil’ Wayne, Florida Georgia Line…it’s a lot of fun and something I think my fans will really get down to!

You’ve collaborated with many artists—who have been some of your favorite to work with?
I’ve honestly loved working with everyone I’ve had the opportunity to work with, but the guys from Florida Georgia Line are so down to earth and super talented. Martin Garixx is so kind and a genius at what he does. I could go on and on about all of the great people I’ve worked with but we don’t have enough time for that.

Have you been to NYFW before?
I have! I love the energy that comes out of Fashion Week. It’s so fierce and electric. My schedule is so crazy right now, I don’t know if I’ll be able to be there again in the fall but you never know!

You’ve had some big hits this year…how are you dealing with the fame?
It’s great but it can be hard at times. I’ve been traveling a lot and it gets hard without my dog and my family with me, but I’m really lucky and fortunate to get to be able to do what I love. There’s no greater feeling than performing and seeing my fans out there dancing along with me and singing my songs. It’s very humbling.

Could you see yourself launching a lifestyle brand?
Not in the immediate future, but never say never! Who knows what direction life will take me.
