Oscar de la Renta Will Get The Carnegie Hall Treatment

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Oscar de la Renta is slated to be honored by a New York institution he’s been involved with for decades: the designer will receive the Carnegie Hall Medal of Excellence on April 24. The award will be given by Sanford Weill, Carnegie Hall’s chairman of the board of trustees, in The Plaza’s Grand Ballroom. Since 1987, de la Renta has been involved with the iconic cultural space. On the entertainment front for the eve, the festivities will migrate from The Plaza to (where else?) Carnegie Hall, where Julio Iglesias will perform. It’ll be the singer’s first time performing at in the hallowed Hall in a quarter-century

“Julio is like a brother to me,” de la Renta said of the entertainer in a statement. “I am unbelievably honored that he will be joining me at Carnegie Hall, a place with an extraordinary soul, that for me holds a very special meaning.”

As for other recent honors for the illustrious designer? The CFDA celebrated de la Renta in June with the “Founders Award,” presented by Hillary Clinton. In July, the former secretary of state (avec the whole Clinton brood) held a private reception for de la Renta at the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Ark., showcasing 30 pieces of the designer’s work. He also won the Iconic Man of Style Award from Vanidades magazine in September, sharing the spotlight with Eva Mendes that evening.

This is the seventh time the Carnegie Hall Medal of Excellence has been awarded. Congratulations, Mr. de la Renta!
