DVF Spring/Summer 2017

Jonathan Saunders made a stellar debut with his first collection for Diane von Furstenberg and immediately upped the ante for the brand. How exciting to see great design that looks much more expensive than it’s actual price tag. A woman can’t ask for much more than that, really. There were chic furs, standout outerwear, and a floral print on a peachy pink fabric that will find its way into many closets. There were still the easy silhouettes that Diane built her business on, but the wrap dress no longer took on the traditional shape that the brand has sold for many years.

Saunders is a talented designer, who has a knack for print and color and was therefore a very smart hire. The British designer left his native London to move stateside to take on the big job. “I love New York. It’s very different from dreary old London,” said Saunders. “I live in the West Village. My house is covered in ivy, so I wake up every morning and it’s like living in the trees. It’s all very optimistic and positive!” There’s no doubt Saunders is making all the right moves.
