Donatella Versace Touts Her New Book

by Eddie Roche

Donatella!!!!! Last night, The Times Center in The New York Times building hosted the charming Donatella Versace for a Q&A moderated by InStyle’s Eric Wilson to plug her new book, “Versace,” which came out last month. The Rizzoli title features Versace photography by Avedon, Bruce Weber, Mario Testino, Meisel—we could go on—and contributions by Stefano Tonchi, Tim Blanks, and the late Ingrid Sischy. Donatella told an audience including Helena Christensen, Leigh Lezark, Mark Holgate, and local fashion students about working with her pal Gaga, her love of Instagram, and thoughts on the current crop of models walking down the runway. “After the [Nineties] supermodel moment, it went in the complete opposite [direction] — plain girls, no makeup,” she told Wilson. “For me, it was sad. I couldn’t wait for the supermodels to come back. It’s always going back and forth. The [new generation] is gorgeous, strong, beautiful. They’re not afraid to show it…They’re not shy. I like that.” Tonight she’ll be signing copies of the book at the Versace boutique at 647 Fifth Avenue from 6-7 p.m.
