Dion Lee Spring/Summer 2017

“Tailored silhouettes are something I’ve always focused on within my collections,” said Dion Lee at the home of Nick Minchin, Australian Consul-General, where he was celebrating the launch of SUIT, a separate 10-piece tailored suiting collection created by Lee in partnership with Woolmark. You will find that collection, available this Fall, at Net-A-Porter. In his own namesake collection, Lee incorporated tailored silhouettes into off-the-shoulder suits, jacket dresses, and trenches. The latter have been a huge trend in the past two seasons and Lee’s wide belted versions really made a statement, particularly in leather. Pleating was the second focus and it looked best on the tiered skirt of a chic white dress. The show closed with a series of sequined numbers that were shown dressed down and paired with oversize anoraks and the Birkenstock-style sandals worn throughout the show, but any of these pieces will be an easy, wearable look for any given cocktail party.

The simple chic simplicity of this collection really struck the right note for Lee this season. The designer himself may have been looking to pare things down this season after his big move across the world from Australia to New York City where he is currently living in a friend’s apartment in Williamsburg until he figures out where to live. Judging by this collection, his work is falling perfectly into place and surely his new life here in the Big Apple will follow.
