Central Park Conservancy’s Night in Emerald City

by Tom White

The Central Park Conservancy’s Annual Gala: A Night in the Emerald City was a party with a dazzling evening of cocktails, dinner, and dancing. Frolicking in the tented event were a thousand of New York’s most prominent park supporters, including Martha Stewart, Fe Fendi, James & Margo Nederlander, Michael & Elyse Newhouse, Stewart F. Lane, Bonnie Comley, and the event Co-Chairs Laureen Seeger & David E. Cohen, Evelyn & David McCabe, Gillian & Sylvester Miniter, and Mo Sakurai & Harry Taylor.

Betsy Smith, the President and CEO of the Central Park Conservancy, welcomed the guests and explained the mission of the Central Park Conservancy, which maintains Central Park as a respite from the pace and pressures of city life for all New Yorkers and visitors. The Conservancy’s staff of more than 300 is responsible for all aspects of the Park’s stewardship, from day-to-day maintenance and operations to continued restoration and rebuilding projects.

The heated tent was decorated with an emerald city theme, and guests gave an elevated nod to the land of Oz, decked out in shades of green, sparkling attire, ruby shoes, and smiles of pride for participating in the park’s care and maintenance. Harry Winston presented the event with wines provided by Robert Mondavi. The evening’s highlight was special performances from the Broadway cast of Wicked.
