Blogger Spotlight! Taylor Camp of The Tie Guy

by Sydney Sadick

If there’s a male blogger who has–simply put–a “thing” for ties, it’s Taylor Camp, the blogger behind The Tie Guy. From why he started his blog to everything you need to know about his tie collection, plus more fun facts, the NYC man about town broke down his story, below.

What made you start your blog?
During my first year of college I started dressing better. Eventually, I wanted a place to talk about menswear so I created my blog on Tumblr. I’ve been on Tumblr for five years and Instagram for about three. Over the years I’ve avidly used these two platforms to grow my brand and to connect with like minded companies and individuals. I try to post and engage as much as possible. It’s been really great knowing I’ve been a part of helping some brands grow and inspired some of my followers to dress better.

How many ties do you own?
About 90.

What does it mean to be a tie guy?
Dress well and always be presentable.

Favorite tie and why?
A vintage Pierre Cardin tie I found at Beacon’s Closet’s original location on North 11th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I love the pattern and it’s quality made. I’ll never get rid of it.

What’s hot on the men’s fashion scene right now?
Joggers, unfortunately.

Who’s style are you loving right now?
Nobody in particular. All the one’s I loved are dead. Think Cary Grant or Gregory Peck.

You’re an UES guy. Where can we find you hanging out?
Seamstress for cocktails, Joe’s Coffee for caffeine, Oita Sushi for Japanese, Central Park for running and on the local 6 train for commuting.

We met you at the launch of Bill Nye x Nick Graham’s bowtie line. How many events are you typically invited to in a week/month?
It depends on the week. Usually up to 3 or 4. Anywhere from 10-15 a month.

Tie pet peeve?
Extremely skinny neckties, (under two inches) or neckties without loops on the back of them. It’s important to tuck in the back of the necktie so it doesn’t flop around!

Fun fact about you?
I went to college in the unfashionably known state of Vermont.

Are you working on anything fun right now?
Holiday gift guides!

Holiday plans?
I’m going upstate to Rhinebeck, New York! I’m excited to spend time with my family!
