Danielle Bernstein, the founder and blogger behind the blog WeWoreWhat, is one of the most influential people in the fashion blogosphere these days. The 22-year-old F.I.T. grad, who’s got over a million Instagram followers and top-notch collaborations under her belt, gives us her tips for aspiring bloggers and the scoop on her career…
Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog four years ago as a street style blog, which is why it’s called WeWoreWhat. I wanted to provide a daily source of outfit inspiration for something that should be the easiest part of your day—getting dressed in the morning—which is sometimes the hardest.
When did you see a shift in gaining so many followers?
There wasn’t really a shift. My blog’s following is a product of natural growth over a four-year period.
What are some of your proudest collaborations?
The design collaborations I’ve done with brands like Topshop and Alex Mika have been some of the ones I’m most proud of.
There are so many bloggers. Why do you think so many people are interested in following you?
I’m not sure. Maybe it’s because I’m a native New Yorker, and I’d like to consider my style to be the perfect mix of relatable and aspirational.
How much clothing and accessories do you typically get sent over?
Every week is different, but we get on average three to six packages a day.
What’s your number one most-read blog post?
I haven’t checked this in a while, but I would assume the recent article that started as a Harper’s Bazaar interview and then my follow up in a blog post has gained a lot of traction.
What’s your approach to Instagram posting?
I usually post about six times a day. Two of those posts are about what’s on my blog that day, and the rest around about the outfit I’m wearing that day, the things I’m doing, seeing, eating, buying, and loving.
What did you do to celebrate reaching 1 million Instagram followers?
My friends threw me a surprise party. It was the coolest thing ever!
What’s your end goal? Do you see yourself always blogging?
Definitely not! My blog has created such an amazing platform that I can now use to take on other projects and industries that I’m interested in.
What blogs do you read?
I follow a lot of street style blogs and use BlogLovin.com to see what my blogger friends are up to.
