Renzo Rosso Appoints Nicola Formichetti Creative Director of Diesel

(NEW YORK) Nicola Formichetti is already moving full speed ahead. On the heels of his departure from Mugler, today it was announced that the uber stylist turned designer would be taking on a new role as the creative director of Diesel. The company sent out a cheeky press release to announce the appointment, which began with the following: “Hell yes! Diesel ignites yet another firestorm by appointing Nicola Formichetti to be the new commander-in-chief of the brave army that will spread Diesel’s marching orders far and wide.” Sounds like a natural fit for the quirky and creative Formichetti. After all, he ignited his own career by creating the looks for pop phenom Lady Gaga that garnered her own army of “little monsters”.

Formichetti will be taking over the role from Diesel founder Renzo Rosso who said, “I finally met someone as crazy as I am. Nicola shares my vision and I find it incredibly inspiring to work with him: two creative planets are colliding to generate fresh, mad, insane ideas.” What’s the new game plan? “Reboot! Hit refresh. That’s our first project: we’re ripping apart everything to re-build something bigger,” said Formichetti. “I want to get the creative young people around the world to be part of the process.” Now that Formichetti has taken the reigns, blue jean billionaire Rosso can finally put his hard earned fortune ($3 billion according to Forbes.com) toward some much needed R&R. According to his twitter feed, he’s already done just that, having just ventured to Nepal for the Easter holiday.
