Brazilian bombshell Jayma Cardoso (who’s seven months pregnant with a boy) brought her baby bump and a bunch of beauties to Art Basel, where she launched a Surf Lodge pop-up at The Deauville Beach Resort (where The Beatles sang when they were on The Ed Sullivan Show). “I swear this baby is going to come out dancing,” Jayma laughed at the Tiki Bar by the pool. “I’ve been at Paul’s Baby Grand, I’ve been running around, and all the loud music…” Jayma was referring to Paul Sevigny‘s pop-up club at The Deauville, which was packed every night with the chicoisie and art kids. Paul’s Oscar-nominated sister Chloe also flew down for the weekend. On my Delta flight to Miami, Chloe bumped into Rosario Dawson and it became a mini Kids reunion. The NADA art fair was at The Deauville too, so there was art to be seen, but Basel is really about people and places to see and be seen. And The Surf Lodge’s cafe was the daytime hot-spot (look, there’s Joe Jonas!), while the pool became a 24-hour hangout.
The Surf Lodge trucked tons of their signature palm-leaf chaises and decor from Montauk to Miami to give The Deauville that beach-chic look they’re famous for. There was even a half-pipe used for both skateboarding stunts and concerts (TV On The Radio was one of the bands that played). A few of the famous and fashionable faces spotted chez Surf Lodge: Solange (DJing at Paul’s Baby Grand), Adrien Grenier, Natalie Joos, Out of Order EIC Dorian Grinspan, Tom Van Dorpe, The Hole’s Kathy Grayson, Ryan McGinley, Shepard Fairey, Swoon, Ron English, Vogue Italia‘s Stefania Pia, Scott Lipps, Brendan Fallis and Hannah Bronfman (the most-invited-everywhere couple of Basel), Waris Ahluwalia, Galore‘s Jakob Dekat and Prince Chenoa, David X Prutting and wife Chau Ngo Prutting, Gap’s Damien Nunes, Angelo Bianchi (you must go to his new eatery, Almanac, in NYC) and the all the fashion DJs, like Mia Moretti, May Kwok, Mike Nouveau, and Chelsea Leyland.
