NYFW Fall 2014: Ralph Lauren, J. Mendel, Marchesa, Reed Krakoff
Ralph Lauren Weary editors trekked through the blizzard this morning to make it to Mr. Lauren's show at St. John's Center Studios on Washington Street on the last day of fashion week as icy snow and wind battered faces and outfits. But per usual with the fashion crowd, there were still a handful of gals that didn't trade in their heels for their snow boots. Miroslava Duma's looks apparently don't pause for the weather as she was spotted in sky-high black knee high boots. For the editors that braved the weather, Mr. Lauren put on two shows in one....
NYFW Fall 2014: Tory Burch, Timo Weiland, Rodarte, Jenny Packham
Tory Burch: This season, Tory Burch’s girl is as cool as steel, literally. The designer kept things feminine, but decided to turn towards her parent’s collection of armor for a dose of inspiration. While there were no stiff suits, overt use of metal or that dull grey that comes courtesy of shields, round grommets, geometric patchwork, and chains alluded to the idea. One of the strongest looks was a simple navy tank dress, with a neckline cut down to the waist and a smattering of burgundy sequins adorning the bodice. However, most of the necklines were cut high (including...
NYFW Fall 2014: Carolina Herrera, Phillip Lim, Billy Reid, Reem Acra
Carolina Herrera: The inimitable Carolina Herrera had a ball with proportions for the Fall, starting from the hair (a big braided bun) and ending with the shoes (jewel-tone kitten heels from Manolo Blahnik). And while one would make the assumption that Herrera was glancing towards the past for inspiration, she insisted her collection was in a full sprint in the direction of the future. Once you looked past the ladylike wool gloves and cocoon shapes, you saw it: the geometric cut outs, the brilliant color hybrids, and the influence of technology. The skins were to die for, from a...

NYFW Fall 2014: DKNY, Thakoon, Lela Rose, Porsche Design
DKNY: Though the big elephant in the room is the anniversary of Donna Karan's namesake label turing 30 this year, let's not forget her cool sister DKNY who turned a mere 25 in September. This year, DKNY showed that New Yorkers (in their words) have "a zillion sides, and so does their style." The collection mixed things up with street style showing a whopping 55 looks that went by in a breeze thanks to a mix of real models including Sasha Luss and New Yorkers such as Chelsea Leyland and Hannah Bronfman. Real people on the runway? We're on...
NYFW Fall 2014: Rag & Bone, Nicole Miller, Rebecca Minkoff, Helmut Lang
Rag & Bone Waiting outside in the cold outside a show is not an ideal situation for the fashion flock, but for Rag & Bone, a few sacrifices need to be made. Once entry was granted, there was a prize for all that waited: branded baggies of mini donuts and a spiked cider. Clearly the latter was the winner for this camp. With their snacks in hand, the audience settled down for the show, which was a menagerie of splattered prints, workman jackets, and a sense of practicality. Thermals were layered underneath buffalo checked skirts, ribbed sweaters peeked out of...
