This week marks a pretty major moment for our Friday dose of comic relief, aka Cosmo‘s Sergio Kletnoy: Some love from The New York Times! Joanna Coles’ right-hand man recounts the glowing reactions he got at the Cosmo 100 luncheon. Oh, and how everyone and their mother blew up his phone this week with congrats. Of course, your dear Daily has been adoring the Serg for eons, so this isn’t all that surprising to us…
“A few weeks back, a local newspaper asked to interview me for a story on executive assistants. Seeing as I’m the bashful and reserved type, I hesitated. But working for one of the most powerful editors in the biz leaves very little room for shyness, so I obliged. What followed was two days of in-person interviews, another two days of a camera crew shadowing me, and a day of non-posey smizing for a photog.
I didn’t know for sure when this story would run, until Sunday eve, when I checked my phone and saw an e-mail with “WTF” in the subject line from a friend who happened to be in Thailand. Inside the email was a screen shot of The New York Times (yeah, that local newspaper) with a photo of moi on the front page, upper right corner. I didn’t over think it and went to bed, because the next morning was our annual Cosmo 100 luncheon at Michael’s and I had to look my best. It takes at least eight hours of beauty sleep for me to look this flawless. When I woke up in the morning I reached for my phone and the first thing I saw was from Sarah Jessica Parker, congratulating me. Unbeknownst to me, the profile was on the front page of the business section! A moment later, three texts in a row said that Pat Kiernan of NY1 just mentioned my name during the newspaper round-up. Sh*t just got real!
The rest of this week was surreal and overwhelming. At the Cosmo 100 luncheon I was congratulated by every power player in attendance, including Barbra Walters, SJP, Christine Quinn, Coco Rocha, Tamara Mellon, Senator Amy Klobuchar, Sky Ferreira, Georgina Chapman, Atlantic Records chairman Julie Greenwald, Mika Brzezinski, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, The Daily Show’s Jessica Williams and Samantha Bee (who I am obsessed with), A&E Networks Nancy Dubuc, Meryl Poster of the Weinstein Co., and Arianna Huffington. Who knew the ladies who lunch also read local papers?
It’s been four days and I still haven’t replied back to all of the congratulatory emails, texts, Facebook messages and tweets. My mom probably wallpapered the entire living room in the business section, and everyone I meet refers to me as Andy or Emily (clever…as if I haven’t heard the The Devil Wears Prada reference before). Here and now I make a promise to everyone: I will never forget where I came from (the Bronx), I will always remember the little people (I see you Madonna) and sign autographs and pose for photos with anyone who asks (talking to you, Mom). Oh, fame…I’m gonna live forever, I’m gonna learn how to fly!
