Milly’s Michelle Smith is kicking off a yearlong partnership with Girls Inc. of New York City—which educates and inspires thousands of low-income girls to better navigate gender, economic, and social barriers—via a capsule collection of the brand’s signature empowerment tees, sweatshirts, and zip pouches. The pieces feature slogans like “GRL PWR,” “Miss Independent,” and Girl Boss.”
“I’ve always felt strongly that girls should use whatever platforms they have to change the world and speak about what matters to them, so partnering with Girls Inc. of New York City felt so organic,” the designer said in a statement. Smith will serve as a mentor to the girls in the program, and Milly and Girls Inc. of NYC will further collaborate with forthcoming capsule collections and a content program. “I’m grateful they have given me the opportunity to inspire and mentor these young women to grow up to be strong, smart, and bold,” Smith added. “Just like the Milly woman, these young women are the future…the future of women everywhere. They’re also from New York City, home to my family and to Milly. The Milly collection is manufactured right here in this city so it feels great to give something back.”
Smith and Girls Inc. of NYC executives Dr. Pamela Maraldo (CEO) and Melissa D’Andrea (VP of programs) will host a panel discussion, in addition to a “GINYC Girl of the Month” column that will be promoted across their channels. Stay tuned!
