OLA-based designers and eternal Daily faves Brian Wolk and Claude Morais showed their seventh Wolk Morais collection at The Jeremy in West Hollywood this week. The boys turned to the “California Cool” movement for inspo, delving into the modern, geometric, color-focused art of Los Angeles painters of the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s. “It was basically a group of jazz musicians, furniture designers, sculptors, and painters,” explain Wolk. “They were reactionary to what was going on in the art world in New York. It was a more relaxed approach to design. The artist Helen Lundeberg inspired the color palette and the geometry.” West Coasters coming out for the Elizabeth Stewart-styled show included Melissa Barrera, Jayson Blair, Micah Schifman, Joe Zee, Erica Cloud, George Kotsipoloulos, Jeff Thomas, and Lindsey Dupuis.
Tuesday also marked hte opening of Wolk Morais’ shop-in-shop at Fred Segal Sunset, which is carrying some of the most popular items from their sixth collection. The boys tell us they’ll be dropping more looks throughout the summer and the “California Cool” collection will be available in September. Can’t wait—literally. In the meantime, enjoy these these backstage images, photographed by Tyler Curtis.
