On Saturday, actress and Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow hosted the fifth annual Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Maria Baum, a breast cancer survivor, created the event, which never fails to bring out the Hamptons crowd in strong numbers. Here’s a stat to prove it: 500 Hamptonites, including many members of the fashion community, attended this year’s bay-side soiree and raised $1.75 million for the organization. Gabby Reece and Laird Hamilton, Tracy Anderson, Molly Sims, Rachel Zoe, Monique Lhullier, Jennifer Fisher, Nicole Miller, Katie Lee, Brendan Fallis, and David and Sybil Yurman came out for the event, where guests could bid on custom surf and paddle boards designed by artists and designers like Tory Burch, Lisa Perry, Nicole Miller, and Donald Robertson in a silent auction. “When Maria was diagnosed, she would paddle on a board that had my husband’s name on it. He didn’t know her, but when she was starting this event she reached out to Laird to see if he’d come out, so we started helping them get designers and artists to make boards,” said Reece.
Paltrow, who stunned in a pink Prada dress, opened the evening and later kicked off a live auction where she surprised guests with an auction package that was, well, pretty priceless: her own personal tickets to a private Coldplay concert at The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett the next night, as well as a kiss (brace yourself…on the lips!) by her ex-husband and Coldplay front-man Chris Martin. We hear the concert had quite the turn out—Karlie Kloss, Jack Brinkley Cook, Kelly Bensimon and Bethenny Frankel [all separately] were spotted there. We wish we had a spy to tell us if the kiss with the auction winner really happened!
The night closed out with a performance by Grammy award-winning performers CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers, who never fails to get everyone on their feet, and a music set by Fallis. Earlier in the day Anderson, along with Hamilton and Reece, kicked off a morning paddle race in Sag Harbor with 200 paddlers as part of the event, and broke down to us what she’s been up to lately. “I have new cleared bars and a protein shake in Target and a brand new DVD, which is very Jennifer Lopez inspired—no jumping, all dancing and a little Latin/hip-hop flavor,” said Anderson. “I’m actually taking my daughter Penny to see her in Vegas. I’ve already seen it and she’s epic! You cannot miss this show; you don’t even realize how many hits she’s had, but the one thing I love is that she does everything right. And I’m opening new studios in Tribeca, Midtown on 59th street and in Miami, so there’s a lot!”
The event was co-chaired by Maria and Larry Baum, Lisa Pevaroff-Cohn and Gary Cohn, Kinga and Edward Lampert, and Jackie and Bippy Siegal.
