Dennis Basso’s collection was full of his glamorous ladylike attire, the kind of clothing that Basso’s dear friend the late great Joan Rivers loved and what Ivana Trump, perched front row, is after. Oh and, darlings, there was fabulous fur! Spring fur chez Basso means a very light pieces like a white fur ribbed coat or a very chic, long grey sleeveless vest, both worn as dresses. Naturally, there were some ball gowns that closed the show for the gala goers. The most lust worthy of that group was a sheer bell-sleeved gown with delicate embroidery. This season, Basso also incorporated an ultra-sexy simple black leather slip dress that clung to the body, a khaki colored jumpsuit, and a feminine plunging v-neck peplum dress for the younger generation looking to tap into the designer’s tony uptown milieu. But if you’re part of Basso’s social set, beware of InStyle‘s editor-at-large Hal Rubenstein…his front row seat is not yours. After an eccentric and rather pushy socialite brandished her cane and challenged him for his front row throne, the editor was heard barking, “Go back to the eighth row where you belong!” That’s fashion for you.
