Calvin Klein Collection Does The Human Rights Thing

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) “It’s just how it should be,” Francisco Costa told us last night at Calvin Klein Collection’s flagship store during their event in honor of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) marriage equality program, Americans for Marriage Equality. “We’re not doing anything spectacular,” the creative director explained about the brand being on the right side of history. Costa was particularly thrilled that (nearly) 90-year-old American artist Ellsworth Kelly was also in attendance. Kelly and Costa have produced a limited quantity color-blocked dress for the label for select museums that was on display at the bash.

Uma Thurman
Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, Alan Cumming, Josh Lucas, Jared Kushner, Cory Bond, Linda Fargo, Stefano Tonchi and David Maupin, Aaron Hicklin, Michael Carl, Andrew Saffir, Daniel Benedict, Gillian Miniter, Veronica Webb, Andy Cohen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Andrew Rannells, Andy Cohen, Nicole Trunfio, Hunter Hill, Lisa Anastos, Jay Errico, and Calvin Klein Collection’s Italo Zucchelli and Calvin Klein’s CEO Tom Murry were just a few of the boldface names (yes, there were more!) who came out to hear remarks from Christine Quinn (maybe our next mayor?) and lend their support.

The Speaker of the New York City Council thanked the crowded for not giving up and praised Llyod Blankfein, CEO and Chairman of Goldman Sachs, who gave his support of marriage equality early on and is credited for being a game changer in getting other high level execs on board. “I have no doubt at all that we’ll get there sooner rather than later” Quinn told the packed crowd. “The coalition we’ve put together is so good and so smart.”

Man-about-town and former Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens was there with his wife (sorry everybody!) and answered the question of the hour: Is he officially a New Yorker now? “I don’t know what makes you an official New Yorker,” he laughed. “We were here for Sandy, if that counts. That’s quite New York-y, isn’t it?”  The actor explained that he’s been to a few same sex weddings in his day. “They are very special occasions, particularly at the moment,” he said. “They have an added resonance. There’s a real triumph in them. It’s a very exciting moment to be in the states to watch this unfold. It’s about love and ultimately about humanity.” Alright, let’s give this guy an official New York welcome!
