Hearst’s Mass Editorial Layoffs Hit Cosmopolitan, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, & More

Though rumors began swirling last week, it’s official: Hearst is the latest media brand hit with editorial layoffs. Today, the publishing company let staff go en masse at Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Esquire, Delish, Good Housekeeping, HGTV Magazine, Woman’s Day, and Bicycling, apparently owed to budget cuts. However, drama abounded throughout the process. According to a LinkedIn post by consultant Arthur Morelli, Hearst began layoffs by announcing affected employees would have exit meetings scheduled by 9:00 AM—only to share a delay in meeting invites by 9:35 AM, as well as premature employee bootings from various Slack channels. Eek! So far, Daisy Maldonado, Gretty Garcia, Cailey Lindberg, Sara Sheehan, Rosael Torres-Davis, Ryan Ilano, and Nishant Agarwal have parted ways with Hearst—but more announcements are anticipated by those affected this week. The disappointing moment continues 2024’s wave of media layoffs, which have included staff cuts at WWD, Footwear News, The Los Angeles Times, Marie Claire, Time, Bustle Digital Group, Goop, and more. Sending good thoughts to everyone impacted.

Selena Gomez Covers The Perfect Magazine‘s Issue 7.5

It’s perfect! Selena Gomez is The Perfect Magazine‘s latest cover star, fronting the publication’s new Issue 7.5. Within the vintage-esque editorial, Gomez poses for photographer Morgan Maher in sharp leather separates, sporty sets, and romantic dresses by DKNY, Saint Laurent, Adidas, and more. The actress’ feature profile finds her in conversation with former The Fundamentals of Caring co-star Paul Rudd, where she discusses her unusual path to stardom. “I don’t think any kid would think it was normal to go through what I went through,” Gomez tells Rudd.  “It feels wonderful now to be 32, happy and healthy.”

Gomez’s Perfect issue is her latest editorial moment this month, following November covers for Elle and The Hollywood Reporter.
