Looking for a festive nail look to accompany your holiday party ensemble? Look no further. Paintbox, the New York City-based manicure studio known for their thoughtfully edited and on-trend designs, just launched an uber-chic collection of holiday nail art looks. We caught up with Eleanor Langston, Paintbox’s Founder and Chief Creative Officer, on the trends to try this holiday season. From subtle to statement-making, these are the unique color combinations and sophisticated designs you’ll be dying to deck your nails in all winter long.
What are your favorite holiday nail trends?
Full-coverage glitters are my go-to for holiday. I love both iridescent finer glitters in soft champagnes and coppers that catch the light, as well as chunkier holographic gold glitters that look like metallic accessories on my nails. Holiday is definitely a time to go bolder and flashier!
What are your favorite color combinations this holiday season?
I think fuchsia is very unexpected for the holiday season! Also, a rich mocha shade paired with foil or a stud is unexpectedly modern in a minimal way. Other great combos for holiday: emerald and blush pink, red and lilac, silver and black, and gold and pale gray.
Tell us about Paintbox’s new holiday collection.
Our “Oh What Fun” collection is chockfull of holiday looks for every personality. If you want something more subtle, go for our Comfort Zone design, a two-toned nail with a matte topcoat. Prefer something glam? Try Tonight’s the Night, a foil design with a black swoop at the tip. Into glitter? Flashes of Light is our full-coverage, turn-heads option, and Fire It Up is a right-now, modern French atop negative space. Want to make a statement with studs? Party Time is unique and cool. We truly have options for as bold as you want to go this social season and into New Year celebrations.
Which design is your favorite?
Fire It Up in sparkly silver will be my holiday manicure.
Can you recommend a design for someone who is hesitant to try nail art?
Comfort Zone can be toned down with two tonal colors, such as beige and off-white or red and burgundy. It can be super subtle and chic.
Any cold weather nail care tips you can share?
I’m newly obsessed with the Jao Hand Refresher, which you can now purchase at Paintbox. It zaps germs but keeps my hands hydrated with lavender, eucalyptus, and geranium oils. It’s incredible! My other, go-to hand products: Jurlique Hand Cream and Fig + Yarrow Nail Salve.
Looking ahead, what are the top nail trends for spring?
For spring, we’re really into reinventing our classic nail designs with new shapes, unexpected color combinations, and on a more almond-shaped nail. Our artists are finding new studs from around the world, as well as playing with new foils, pearly top coats, and light-reflective opals. In terms of colors, I’m really into natural tones from the desert, a la sage greens, dusty blues, terracottas and milky mauves. I’m so inspired every day by our creative team, as well as our incredible clients, who always are doing cool takes on our designs and even suggesting new looks.
OK, let’s play a quick game of This or That!
Gel or polish? Gel.
Matte or glossy? Glossy.
Red or pink? Red.
Lines or dots? Lines.
Silver or gold? Gold.
Round or square? Round.
The “Oh What Fun” holiday nail art collection will be available exclusively at Paintbox beginning Friday, December 1st.
