There’s lots to love about Katie Grand, editor-in-chief of Love Magazine and renowned stylist: her keen eye and boundless creativity, to name two. But how well do you know the editrix who launched her very own biannual publication? The It-Brit gets talking!
- One of my prized possessions is a signed photo of Harrison Ford: Although I love movie stars and movies, he’s the only one I truly care about.
- I’m a very good hand-knitter: My mum taught me when I was little and when I was at Central Saint Martins I knitted to make money and wrote knitting patterns for Elle. I would knit through the night and watch Working Girl or Truth or Dare or Angel Heart to keep me awake.
- I’m a hideous cook, absolutely appalling: And I’m too careless to even chop anything successfully—I make up for it by picking up restaurant bills.
- My wardrobe is a separate building that’s walking distance from my house: Everything is documented and I have files at the office with the garments, shoes, and accessories.
- I never throw clothes away: The only items I ever think are acceptable to chuck are gym kit and trainers. I walk so much, I throw trainers out all the time.
- I hate driving and taking cabs so I try to walk everywhere: I get bored driving and you can’t use your phone and cabs are so tedious as you have no control (I’m a control freak) so walking is the best and safest option. Most days I walk about six to eight miles a day and make phone calls and send emails—a walking office, if you like.
- When I was 20 we made a documentary called “The Look with BBC2”: It was me and my Saint Martins friends attempting to get into fashion shows, and I was so appalled by how mouthy and bratty I was I refused to do any television for 15 years until I did CNN with Derek Blasberg last September.
- I dressed the Spice Girls for their “Spice Up Your Life” launch in 1997: It was seven days of prep and we had three giant studios for clothes and they hated everything we got and wore their own clothes in the end, except Mel C, who wore new versions of the Adidas pieces she always wore, and Victoria Beckham, who got us to call in shop stock from Gucci.
- I wear the same size clothes as Marc Jacobs: He can fit into most of the same pieces I have from Prada, including shoes. We have shot many times together and quite often he has worn my clothes. So they discount their least favorite and have options!
- I have a bigger shoe archive of Prada than they do: When we did the Met book, Impossible Conversations, in 2012 we used mainly my shoes as Prada only holds limited samples in bigger sizes. I have a ridiculous amount!
