Conde Nast International’s chairman and chief Jonathan Newhouse has come out in support of John Galliano, telling Vogue UK that they’ve developed a tight friendship since that little incident a few years ago. “After he left Christian Dior and went into recovery from his illness, our relationship deepened and became a friendship,” he explains.
We’ve been curious to hear John Galliano’s side of the story since his 2011 anti-semetic rant and he finally opens up to Ingrid Sischy in Vanity Fair’s June issue. The troubled designer reveals he’s been sober for two years after a stint at an Arizona rehab facility, and has no recollection of the incident that ended his career at Dior. The man hasn’t spoken to the press since an apologetic announcement after his famous incident, but Galliano still continues to stir up the headlines The fascination with Galliano’s career status continues, including his stint with Oscar de la Renta, that class at Parson’s (which was subsequently canceled), and a much-anticipated upcoming Vanity Fair interview, the latter of which was recently conducted by Ingrid Sischy, according to WWD, although the publication date remains a mystery.

John Galliano’s got another new gig. His latest role? Teacher. The designer is set to teach a masterclass series at Parsons entitled, “Show Me Emotion!” The class will be taught to the design school’s seniors in the bachelor of fine arts program. The four-day course will include three days in the design studio with Galliano, which will be followed by a critique and Q&A with the dean of fashion, Simon Collins.

In the midst of his super secretive gig with Oscar de la Renta, John Galliano exited a Paris courtoom today with another small victory towards his road to redemption. The news? The French Labor Relations Court ruled that they were qualified to hear the designer’s side of the story, which is bound to come out in his $15 million lawsuit against his former employer Christian Dior and namesake label John Galliano. This is just the first step in what will undoubtedly be a long battle. Galliano’s lawyer, Chantal Giraud-Gaver, said it could take years due to a back-up of cases at the court.
Somebody call TMZ! Page Six is reporting that John Galliano was spotted yesterday having brunch with Grace Coddington and a male friend at Sant Ambroeus in the West Village. It was reported last week that Oscar de la Renta is lending his studio to the troubled designer for the next three weeks. Keep us posted on any Galliano sightings…
Here’s one more contact to update: Today, John Galliano S.A. announced the appointment of PR veteran Alex Malgouyres as the brand’s communications director. He will oversee all worldwide public relations activities for John Galliano and Galliano lines, including men’s, women’s, kids, accessories, jewelry, eyewear, timepieces, and fragrance. Previously, Malgouyres spent five years at Burberry, holding the Paris-based post of PR director for continental Europe and PR director for the Americas, based in New York. Prior to that, he worked in the Paris office of KCD, where he spent four years handling PR for Alexander McQueen, Helmut Lang, and Kim Jones in France and Italy. He also worked with clients such as Gucci and YSL. The appointment is effective immediately.
