Instead of sitting front row on Wednesday night, Fern Mallis was front and center on stage at the 92Y for a lengthy chat with Kenneth Cole as part of her “Fashion Icons” series. If you stumbled upon the Meatpacking ‘hood last night and noticed that things seemed a little different outside of Theory’s store on Gansevoort, your eyes didn’t deceive you. The lights about the store were turned red in honor of (RED) and the Global Fund to fight AIDS. Last night AID FOR AIDS (AFA) International hosted its 2013 My Hero Gala to raise money for the awareness and fight against HIV and AIDS at Three Sixty on 10 Debrosses Street in Tribeca. AFA primarily works with Latin American immigrants in the USA and has six offices across Latin America. This year the event honored Peruvian artist Ernesto Pimentel and Dr. Robert Redfield, who is the co-founder and associate director of the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine for their fight against the disease.
