Saintly Bodies

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Last night, BAMcinemaFest and The Cinema Society hosted the opening night premiere of Ain’t Them Bodies Saints.  Cinema obsessives gathered with lead actors from the film, Casey Affleck and Ben Foster, for the occasion, Writer/director David Lowery also walked the tapis rouge alongside IFC Films’ president, Jonathan Sehring.

The event took place in BAM’s Harvey Theater in Brooklyn, which, according to Lowery, “is the best place to show a movie” and was graced by the famous folks like Anna Chlumsky, Alek Karpovsky, Noah Bean and Wendell Pierce, to name a few. Unfortunately, lead actress, Rooney Mara was unable to attend the event, but her co-stars made sure to make her lively personality present at the event. When asked what it was like to act with Rooney Mara on the film, witty Casey Affleck responded, “It’s a bit like going to visit an exotic animal on some exotic animal farm. She is very serious and has a lot of presence, but you’re never quite sure if she’s going to rip your throat out or lick you.” Intriguing!

Throwing summer diet regimes out the window, the crowd munched on an assortment of candy and popcorn while witnessing the difficult journey of two lovers, Bob (played by Affleck) and Ruth (played by Mara). Forced into separation following a shootout in which a police officer (Ben Foster) becomes wounded, the two show the struggles a couple endure when love and parental responsibilities contradict. The movie made for an enjoyable eve, according to the echoes of applause.

The scene then moved to Skylight One Hanson for the after party, and the venue (oh, those soaring ceilings!) was a prime spot for replenishing one’s thirst with cocktails. The only thing to do after a delicious popcorn dinner, right?
