Mikimoto, the iconic purveyor of luxe pearl baubles, celebrated its new book with a swanky get-together at Omar’s last night. Aptly titled The Pearl Necklace, the tome was published in collaboration with Assouline; together, they took over the West Village hot-spot by featuring photography from the book as well as various stations that provided extensive history lessons on the pearl. Par example? Vintage illustrations from René Gruau, a portrait of Giambattista Valli wearing his signature strand, and a full-on display of one-of-a-kind pieces pulled from Mikimoto’s archives that guests could try on. All eyes were on the strand of pearls Joe DiMaggio famously gave to Marilyn Monroe in 1954—could you blame us?—and to satisfy our Instagram-obsessed age, a photo booth was conveniently nearby. Notables included Parker Posey, Nolan Funk, Allison Sarofim, Cameron Silver, Martine and Alex Assouline, Cynthia Rowley, Stellene Volandes, and Nick Graham.
