Last night, Lou & Grey—the Loft brand for “women on the go”—celebrated the official opening of its first New York City store. Style maven Jamie Chung and Alana Hadid—who’s collaborated with Lou & Grey on bandanas and other accessories—were there, as well as May Kwok, who was on DJ duty, and Zella Day. The singer gave a special performance for the chic set of attendees who came out to celebrate the new digs, located at 138 Fifth Avenue at 19th street.

During New York Fashion Week, Lou & Grey celebrated its Fall campaign at the new store with a runway show, where models, wearing the super cozy collection, carried kittens as they took to the “cat”walk. We caught up with design director Ardith Singh about the collection and new retail location.
What inspired the Fall collection?
AS: We were inspired by upstate New York. We felt like we needed to unplug. We also drew our inspiration from the light out there. In the city you don’t really get a specific type of energy, but when you’re upstate you get a different sort of appreciation for that early morning mid-day sun and then the sunset so that kind of guided our collection for each drop. We are loving all these soft pinks, and really soft sunset colors off of these rich forest greens, cerulean blues.
Why did you pick this location for the new store?
AS: I think that lower 5th Avenue is a really great location in terms of New Yorkers that are here–they live here, they work here, but you also get tourists. It’s a really great cross section of people. This is a really easy location to pass through.
