Bouchra Jarrar Couture Spring 2015

by Dena Silver

Opulent gowns took a backseat this Spring at Bouchra Jarrar in favor of daytime pieces, amped up with luxe touches. Replete with shimmering tweeds, slashes of body crossing zippers, look closely, because this isn’t your average collection of work apropos separates. A swirly houndstooth skirt suit was detailed with strips of black vinyl, and that trim played a big part in this season’s story. Looks were pared down with pointy oxford snakeskin brogues and a handful of chubby fur collars. Daytime chic never looked so sleek. But when it comes to evening options, Jarrar put her tailoring wizardry to work, draping sumptuous silks into one-shouldered gowns and creating artful swirls out of cream-colored paillettes. As for the designer’s nighttime-apropos offerings, consider a slim tuxedo in a buttery shade, which hits a sweet spot between couture artistry and laid-back luxury.
