Blast Off! Chanel’s Out of this World Fall/Winter 2017 Collection

Just when you think Karl Lagerfeld can’t top himself, he goes and builds a full-blown space shuttle in the Palais Royal. The piece wasn’t purely decorative—it actually had engines that fired and lifted partially off the ground. Incroyable! Karl knows the future: the fashion show as the ever-growing stage spectacle. It was the moment of Paris Fashion Week that launched a thousand Instagram posts. And while the kaiser is all about the future, this moment will live on throughout history.

Out marched Karl’s space explorers in silvery Chanel boots with patent leather cap toes—surely, the must-have accessory of the season. Their hair was teased in poufs and topped off with pearl-adorned ski headbands. Necklines on ’60s-style mod looks mimicked the top of an astronaut’s uniform sans helmet—the best was a sequin-accented white version. Lindsey Wixson came out in a chic shearling and leather coat dipped in silver-like spaceship material. The look was worn with Bermuda shorts, which was a theme that ran throughout the collection.
