Men’s jewelry is having a moment. And one of the biggest players in the space is Michael Saiger, the founder of Miansai, a global brand known for its elevated take on everyday jewelry pieces. Here, Saiger discusses Miansai’s future innovations, including working with Everett Williams, one of today’s most creative souls, to offer a fresh, reimagined perspective on jewelry design.
What’s new for Miansai?
For the past 14 years, we’ve been able to build a strong jewelry brand based off of our minimalist take on accessories. Now, it’s time we continue pushing the envelope and invite other style icons to collaborate with us. This gives us an opportunity to think outside our typical Miansai box, and welcome new ideas from like-minded creatives. On the horizon is a collaboration with Everett Williams, a Los Angeles-based multihyphenate and style icon.
Tell us more about past collaborations.
We’ve been fortunate to partner with some of the industry’s most innovative brands, including Mr. Porter, J.crew, FILA and more. With FILA, we felt honored to work with them because they chose us to be the sneaker company’s first-ever collaboration with a jewelry brand. We produced two limited-edition silhouettes, that combine the sporty heritage of FILA with our subtle yet elevated aesthetics. On one shoe, we placed our best-selling silver screw cuff on its back counter and on the other shoe, its laces were inspired by our signature rope bracelets.
How did your collaboration with style icon Everett Williams come to fruition?
It happened in, of all places, Puerto Rico. My wife, Rachael, has been good friends with Everett for several years, and she invited him to visit us at our Rincon, Puerto Rico home. Over good cocktails and a tropical setting, we felt that it was a good time to bring our creative energies together to create a collaborative collection.
Why is Everett a good fit for your brand?
Everett has created some of today’s most-viewed digital fashion content. He’s collaborated with brands such as Levi’s, Shiseido, Mugler, Tiffany & Co., Farfetch and Calvin Klein. His take on modern aesthetics is both thought-provoking and whimsical. Every time I view his work, I’m left with a smile, something that I wanted to bring to the Miansai wearer.
What can we expect with Miansai x Everett Williams?
The collection will come out in April 2023, a perfect season because in classic Everett style, he’s given us a license to be more eccentric and whimsical. It’ll feature a selection of necklaces, rings and earrings, all with a lot of kitsch. The look will still be decidedly Miansai with our signature minimalist focus, but thanks to Everett, we’ll introduce more pops of color, including green stones, and little counterculture touches.
What have you learned along the way?
That a collaborative spirit can bring fresh ideas that truly pushes all creators in a new level. The energy we have when we feed off each other is infectious, and it leaves me searching for the next wave of collaborations that can keep pushing my design boundaries.
