Remember Richard Grieco? The former star of the ’80s Fox show 21 Jump Street has been off our radar in recent years, but his son Dylan Grieco is here to carry the torch with an emerging modeling career. The Daily recently caught up with the “new” Grieco to chat about following in his parent’s footsteps and how he plans to forge his own path in the biz.
How did you get started?
When I started off, I wasn’t signed with anyone, and my friend was walking for Longchamp. She basically introduced me to them and I walked his shows for I think two seasons. After that everyone was telling I should sign to an agency. So I met with DT Model Management, with David Todd. I went to the agency and ended up signing. I’ve been with them for about a year now. I’ve booked two big things so far: Nike and Hot Topic.
We heard you were a little hesitant to model at first. True?
I wasn’t sure if it was something for me. I wasn’t really confident so I was nervous. I just didn’t think that I’d be able to do it. I ended up giving it a shot because everyone told me that there is no reason not to try it out.
What changed your mind?
My mom [Kimber Sissons]. She used to model and so did my dad. She said it was a good way to make money, meet a bunch of people, and it’s a great way to travel.
What was your upbringing like and also your relationship with your mom and dad?
My dad wasn’t really in the picture. My mom and I are like best friends. It’s just been her and I my whole life. We’re very close.
Your dad was on 21 Jump Street. Have you ever watched his episodes?
I have not. I probably will eventually. I haven’t done it yet.
What are some of your tips and tricks you’d give to someone who wants to pursue a career in modeling?
Stay in touch with your agency. Make sure you’re available. If you’re not, they’re not going to book you. Have a good relationship with your agent.
