In the ever-evolving world of fashion, the importance of cultural diversity cannot be overstated. Through diversity, fashion finds its true essence, going beyond simple clothing items to become a tapestry of global heritage and inclusivity. SingleTree Lane, an independent fashion brand founded by entrepreneur and artist Anita Davenport, stands as a beacon of this inclusive approach, weaving the rich fabrics of various cultures into its designs and embodying the ethos of “Love All, Serve All.”
Fashion, at its core, is a form of expression. It tells stories, celebrates heritage, and bridges gaps between different cultures. SingleTree Lane, with its roots deeply embedded in the multicultural background of its founder, uses fashion as a canvas to showcase cultural narratives from around the globe. From the vibrant prints inspired by African textiles to the intricate designs reminiscent of Asian artistry, each piece is a homage to the diversity that defines us as humans.
According to Davenport, she intentionally launched SingleTree Lane on February 1, 2023, in celebration of Black History Month. Having grown up in a mostly White neighborhood in California, Davenport was mostly unaware of the racial divide in 1970s California, which was still mostly segregated. Today, having looked at things through adult eyes, Davenport is celebrating her Black heritage through SingleTree Lane, bringing its message of diversity to a wider audience. The brand is named after the road where Davenport’s childhood home stood, reflecting both the innocent times of her youth and the social turmoil experienced by many Black people.
The mission of SingleTree Lane goes beyond its aesthetic appeal, as it aims to create designs that resonate with everyone, regardless of their background. This commitment to inclusivity is not just about offering sizes that fit all body types but also about creating designs that people from various cultures can see themselves in. Davenport says her approach to design is a testament to the belief that fashion should be as diverse as the people it serves, ensuring that everyone finds a piece that speaks to their identity and heritage. SingleTree Lane serves as an overarching collection of Davenport’s work, which spans at least six different brands, each with their unique creative concept.
“Love All, Serve All”: More Than Just a Motto
At the heart of SingleTree Lane is a powerful motto: “Love All, Serve All.” This philosophy is not only about embracing and celebrating diversity but also about fostering a sense of community and connection. Davenport’s vision goes beyond the superficial layers of fashion, aiming to create a brand that serves as a force for unity and positivity. Under her creative guidance, SingleTree Lane integrates this motto into every aspect of its business, from design to customer service. The brand not only sells clothing but also puts forward a vision of a world where diversity is celebrated and cherished.
Davenport believes that the fashion industry, with its global reach, has the power to influence perceptions and break down cultural barriers. SingleTree Lane’s focus on incorporating diverse cultural elements into its designs is a step towards a more inclusive and understanding world. By presenting a wide array of cultural influences in a single collection, SingleTree Lane showcases the beauty of global unity, highlighting how different elements can come together to create something truly remarkable.
Many companies pay lip service to diversity – often celebrating it in words but not always in action. Among these, SingleTree Lane stands out as a brand that not only talks the talk but also walks the walk. Through its commitment to cultural diversity and inclusivity, embodied in its guiding principle of “Love All, Serve All,” SingleTree Lane is not just creating fashion – it’s crafting a narrative of unity, respect, and love. As we celebrate Black History Month this February, Anita Davenport’s approach at SingleTree Lane serves as an inspiration to everyone, reminding us that fashion is not just about what we wear, but about the stories we tell and the world we envision.
Davenport is also active on social media, where she wears her creations in her videos that have gathered thousands of views on TikTok where she showcases her personality.
