Taslina Nazar: Graphic and Motion Designer Reimagines Visual Storytelling

by Tom White

Taslina Nazar is a Boston-based graphic and motion designer who is breaking borders through creativity. She’s been carving a name for herself in the design industry for over seven years. “I saw problems by pushing the boundaries of traditional design, integrating motion graphics to create compelling visual experiences,” Nazar says. Nazar’s ability to turn abstract ideas into designs that resonate with audiences has helped major brands tailor their messaging through visual storytelling.

“I’ve always been fascinated by how art and design can connect diverse ideas and disciplines,” Nazar says. This fascination motivated her to earn a master’s in Motion Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Soon after, she landed the role of Senior Motion Designer at a Boston marketing agency.

Successful brand marketing involves more than creative ideas. Problem-solving is the heart and soul of the industry. Specifically, how do you get a brand notice in a crowded marketplace? And that’s a challenge Nazar faces each day.

“My approach to design is rooted in problem-solving, not just visual aesthetics,” she explains. With this design philosophy, Nazar began making her mark working with brands like Disney, X-Games, Fender, and Puma. “Each new challenge helps me push my own creative boundaries, “ Nazar reveals. Little did she know one project would test those boundaries and ultimately lead to a highlight of her design career.

Marketing agencies are high-pressure environments with tight deadlines. “One of my proudest moments was producing a 3D billboard for Amazon Music in London with a tight 10-day deadline,” Nazar recalls.

The project posed several challenges. Aside from the insane deadline, projects of that magnitude take a whole team weeks to complete. Also, this was the first 3D billboard the agency ever did, and Nazar was solely responsible for getting it done. Most importantly, she had to figure out how to make the billboard stand out.

The billboard was for an artist named Sam Ryder for his Christmas single. How could Nazar get him noticed? “My creative process was to have Sam’s branding all over it. I achieved this by using his iconic Gibson guitar as the main element of the billboard, “ she explains. Nazar’s ability to find quick yet precise solutions has shaped and influenced her reputation as a visual storyteller.

Not only is she a gift to a designer she’s also a critically-acclaimed musical artist and producer. In 2021, she released a four-song EP named Ko-Lab. That year Rolling Stone India named it the second-best EP in the country. So, it’s no surprise that music plays a big role in her creative process. “I often think about design rhythmically, ensuring the flow of visuals mirrors the energy of the music, especially with motion design,” she explains.

The skillful designer is passionate about exploring the intersection of music and design. “My goal is to create immersive experiences that redefine how audiences engage with both our forms,” Nazar says.

Down the road, she hopes to own an agency. “As I look ahead, I want to continue leading creative teams and helping shape the future of design – especially within the music industry,” Nazar says.

In the meantime, this forward-thinking artist continues to blend different mediums (motion design, graphic design, music) and explore new ways to tell stories visually. Nazar is currently the Lead Designer for a Web3 company named Camp Network. She handles everything design-related, including websites, campaigns, social media ads, and leading designers who are outsourced for projects.

In the future, she sees the design industry evolving toward more cross-disciplinary collaborations, where artists from various fields come together to create holistic experiences. There’s no doubt Nazar will be in the mix, making her impact as a global design leader.
