A multi-dimensional artist, Miss Velvet is quickly establishing herself as a bold new voice in music, fashion, and film. With her signature aesthetic and genre-defying projects, she’s not only lighting up stages but reshaping the cultural conversation. Her recent visual album, a 14.5-minute sonic and cinematic short film, has already garnered major critical acclaim, winning the Diamond Globe Award at the International New York Film Festival, Best Music Video at the LA Film Festival (under shorts), and the Houston Film Festival’s top music video prize.
Fresh off the success of her album, Miss Velvet didn’t just throw a party; she crafted an immersive, high-concept experience. Her recent birthday celebration at Chez Fifi unfolded as an unapologetic fusion of opera, performance art, music, and raw creative energy that could only exist in the Velvet universe.
The evening opened with an electrifying performance by Grammy Award-winning tenor and Metropolitan Opera star Aaron Blake. His voice, soaring, operatic, and otherworldly, commanded the room with a kind of sacred intensity. It was the kind of moment you rarely witness in such an intimate setting: sublime, disarming, and unforgettable. Blake’s performance set a tone of emotional honesty and high art, preparing the room for a full-course dinner and intimate conversation.
After the Parisian bistro fare was served, Miss Velvet took over with an electric and deeply personal performance. Accompanied by dancers, she invited her guests into a world that’s sacred, a space where artists and outsiders alike can show up as their rawest selves. That’s the ethos of Miss Velvet: radical self-expression, celebrated without apology.

The show was an exciting teaser for her new art project titled “Who is Miss Velvet?,” a performance project that merges movement, identity, and music into a living installation. The centerpiece is a choreographed 90-second sequence from her visual album, reimagined as a traveling flash mob set to debut during the Pride Parade.
The performance, directed by world-renowned choreographer and movement artist Jermaine Brown, known for his work with Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Prada, and The Voice—will feature Miss Velvet alongside six Velvet look-alikes in dynamic motion. It’s a celebration of queerness, self-love, and personal transformation, presented through stylized choreography and sonic storytelling.
The music was co-created with Grammy-featured producer ESJAY Jones, Miss Velvet’s longtime collaborator and creative partner. Together, the duo previously brought audiences the critically acclaimed short Triptych, directed by Gus Black, and now continue their genre-smashing partnership with “Who is Miss Velvet?”

The evening closed with a decadent birthday cake and upbeat dance party for everyone to find their own beat in the Velvet world. The party was yet another indication that Miss Velvet isn’t simply making art, she’s building a world. And she’s inviting us all to step inside.
