Zimmermann Spring/Summer 2017

“It’s called ‘Stranded’ which was actually a night club that I used to go to when I was pretty young,” said Nicky Zimmermann backstage at her Spring/Summer 2017 show. “It was in the city and I used to drive in from the suburbs. It had a bit of an ‘80s sub culture, music and fashion going on. It was a bit of a place that was different from everywhere else I went out growing up. I used to make my own clothes to go there…it sort of cemented me into what I wanted to do.” That may be why some of Zimmermann’s typically romantic fair had an edge this season with hints at a bondage theme on crop tops, grommet details that zigzagged and waved across skirts and dresses, plenty of plaid, and a few pairs of track pants (in floral nevertheless). “I love the contradiciton of super pretty and tough,” said Zimmermann. Her personal favorites were the lace dresses in dark peach and the steel colored knee-high boots, which she admitted were a nightmare to get on. But hey, sometimes you have to suffer a little for fashion right? They did look pretty great and so did the menswear inspired check pieces and those floral overcoats. We’ll just have to suffer until Spring until these are available.
