Zero + Maria Cornejo Fall 2015

by Dena Silver

Sitting front row at Maria Cornejo’s Fall runway show were the likes of Emily Mortimer and Cindy Sherman. These are exactly the type of women Cornejo was designing for: strong, independent, and creative. Those descriptives sum up Cornejo’s latest collection, too. In a strong color story of black and white, with a bit of blue and red, the silhouettes were simple but intriguing. A mix of ponchos, stretch leather dresses, wrap skirts, jumpsuits, wide pants, and skinny pants came out for Fall. The variety of shapes was vast, as were the textures. To keep warm, there were furry toppers, featuring a wool scuba jacket with an X-detail across the chest and patchwork shearling coat. The looks were paired with mohawks, a braid detail, and some off-kilter makeup, including geometric shapes painted on eyelids, Cornejo’s girl always nails it.
