There’s sleepaway camp, theater camp, and band camp and for the aspiring designers, stylists, and editors, there’s Fashion Camp NYC. The program, which is in its 10th year, gives fashion-savvy tweens and teens the chance to visit major fashion houses, go on field trips that take them behind the scenes, learn how brands are built and the different facets of the fashion industry, including PR, social media, business, styling, tech, and more. The program runs from July 24 – 28 and July 31 to August 4. This year’s roster of speakers are Aya Kanai (executive fashion director at Cosmo/Seventeen and Project Runway Junior judge), Steven Alan (designer), Connie Wang (fashion features director at Refinery29), Sophia Macks (founder & CEO of Beyond the Mag), Cassandra Dimicco (fashion blogger), Lauren Levinson (senior Editor at Pop Sugar Beauty), and Lauren Rae Levy (fashion stylist and brand consultant). As far the field trips lined up? Ralph Lauren, Nine West, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Mud Make-up Designory, LaForce Fashion PR, Madison Avenue, Clo Virtual Fashion, and Mood Fabrics.
“Fashion Camp NYC exposes campers to the full breadth of the industry beyond just design and the result is a student who is poised for a career and education in fashion,” said Miriam Quart, camp director. “Through classroom education, field trips to top design houses, talks by leading industry insiders and hands-on exercises, campers are really given the behind-the-scenes, full picture of the fashion industry plus an unforgettable experience exploring the fashion capital of the world.”
