More Drama at W (WWD)
The staff of W Magazine is apparently going through some transitional pains after the publication was sold to Surface. Rumors are swirling that some staff members overseeing the magazine’s new issue have not received severance pay, and have not been paid for their week of work. Surface CEO Marc Lotenberg claims he wasn’t aware of the situation, while an anonymous Condé Nast representative denied the pay issue.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Condé Nast initially only gave employees 24 hours to sign on with Surface. Their new contracts stipulate that the employees are in a three month “introductory period” after which their continued employment will be determined by a “satisfactory evaluation” of their work. This has created concerns that there will be layoffs in three months time.
