Vionnet Spring 2016

by Paige Reddinger

Vionnet’s show at Le Couvent des Cordeliers in Paris began with string instruments (a current theme at the shows in Paris). A cellist played in the center of a runway while violinists were placed amid the last rows on each side of the room. It was a stately way to present Vionnet’s requisite pleated Grecian gowns, which came overlayed with gauzy ephemeral capes this season. The color palette was mostly nude, white, baby blue, olive, and black. Anna Cleveland, model du moment and Vionnet ad campaign model, opened the show in a white pleated gown that crossed at the neckline and was topped off with a nude cape.

One of our favorite looks was a simple white deep-V gown with a pleated skirt on this season’s other hot model, Dominican Republic native Lineisy Montero, who has walked more runways than we can count during fashion month. Tonight Vionnet will unveil its Paris flagship on 31, rue François 1er, which will reportedly have a technological element that will pay tribute to the brand’s heritage, according to the brand’s owner and creative director Goga Ashkenazi. At the end of the show, Ashkenazi took her bow with several members of her team. We’re looking forward to seeing what she and her team have in store next.
