Prepsters, take note: Vineyard Vines has officially opened up shop in East Hampton, now the second location to scoop up the label’s wares out East. Last weekend they hosted an opening soiree, where their iconic pink whale mingle among shoppers who sipped cocktails while perusing the shop as a live guitarist strummed.  In celebration of East Hampton’s newest boutique, we talked shop with the label’s CEO’s and co-founders Ian and Shep Murray.

Why did you decide to open up shop in East Hampton?
Ian Murray: When we opened our temporary space in Southampton four years ago, we were delightfully overwhelmed by the response from the community. We just reopened our Southampton store in its permanent location, and are continuing to grow our presence in the Hamptons. We saw East Hampton as another great opportunity. We’re thrilled to be in town through the summer and fall!

What’s the biggest difference between Martha’s Vineyard and the Hamptons?
Shep Murray:
Martha’s Vineyard has a bit more of a fishing village vibe, but in general there are so many parallels between both destinations, including that undeniable East Coast charm; old homes covered in cedar shakes, the perfect place to grab ice cream, and pristine beaches.

What’s the story behind the Vineyard Vines whale?
Ian: The island of Martha’s Vineyard was once an old whaling village, and is known for its hand-carved wooden whales. Our dad taught us how to carve them when we were children.

How often do you don Vineyard Vines threads?
Shep: Every day! After 16 years, we don’t own much else.

Which Vineyard Vines accessory is a must-have for summer in the Hamptons?
Shep:
Our cooler totes come in fun prints and bright colors. They’re perfect for stashing drinks and food for a day on the boat or at the beach.
