She might be known for artfully crafting tons of lacy white wedding gowns, but Vera Wang proved via her Resort showing that she knows how to create a dark, brooding collection with equal aplomb. It was pretty clear from look one—a tiered tulle dress in a dark floral print, paired with a coordinating floor-length vest and messy bedhead hair to match—that grunge was the feeling of the season. Black loafers reinstated that sentiment. While the meshing of patterns and dark textures weren’t exactly a departure for the designer, it was still a refreshing approach to the season. And there were plenty of different silhouettes to take into consideration as well: tailored short shorts, floor-skimming gowns, babydoll dresses, tuxedo pants, and a singular bandeau top.
For a bit more pizzazz, there were also sequined pieces sprinkled throughout the collection. Embellished with white and gold sparkles and dotted with chic florals, this patchwork-esque print is bound to become an editorial darling. In a nod to her more altar-apropos designs, there were a few eyelet pieces on show, including a delicate white shirtdress. The same pattern also made an appearance, blown up and reinvented on a cropped sweatshirt. Finally, adding a bit of punchy personality to the collection: a camel-colored sweater with the phrase ‘Stop It.’ printed on the back. Quite the mouthy knit!
