Since 2017, Milan Fashion Week has closed with a celebration of sustainability: the Green Carpet Fashion Awards. Spearheaded by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) and Eco-Age, the awards highlight brands making an effort to maintain their heritage while working to be more sustainable. This morning in Milan, it was announced that this year’s ceremony will honor Valentino Garavani with the Legacy Award.

“Through his iconic work spanning over five decades, championing Italian talent, design and fashion, Valentino is a creative visionary and truly deserving of the Green Carpet Fashion Award’s Legacy Award,” said Carlo Capasa, chairman of CNMI and Livia Firth, creative director and co-founder of Eco-Age.

Hamish Bowles, creative director of the awards, was also on hand to discuss the theme of this year’s show, which is inspired by the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo Da Vinci. Meanwhile, models Adut Akech and Jon Kortajarena were confirmed as the show’s hosts. The Green Carpet Fashion Awards will take place September 22nd.
