Valentino Fall/Winter 2017

by Paige Reddinger

Holy hues! Pierpaolo Piccioli presented a divine collection filled with confectionary eye-popping colors inspired by the ’80s Italian design and architecture group founded by Ettore Sottsass. And while that movement’s distinct colors were a foundation, the designs were rooted in Victoriana. The historical-infused splendor of Piccioli’s collections at Valentino are so beautiful that they create an almost childlike reaction. Grown-up women dream of their princess moment in these gowns, without the connotations that “princess” usually conjure in jaded fashion minds. But this season, Valentino gave birth to a new silhouette for women looking for something perhaps a little less formal—exquisite shift dresses in pleated cyan blue or a raspberry velvet intricately adorned in sequins. There was absolutely nothing to protest here. Piccioli’s fashion fantasy was as transporting as ever.
