Valentino Couture Fall 2014

Valentino Haute Couture Fall 2014

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli‘s designs for Valentino tend to look like they’ve leapt off the canvases of history’s greatest artists, and this season’s Couture showing was no exception. Absolutely beautiful pre-Raphaelite inspired clothing floated down the runway. Some pieces took inspiration from Roman togas and were worn with gladiator sandals (all of which were flats; recurring Couture shoe theme alert!).

There were white dresses, skirts, and sumptuous furs in a wheat motif, cinched with black leather belts. A golden-hued dress coat with a forest green leather belt looked like a hand woven tapestry. Toga-inspired dresses came in sheer flowing fabrics in nude, forest green, and azure blu, and on minimalistic pieces like a white one-shouldered dress worn over black wide-leg pants that was oh so chic. A studded white leather coat and a matching skirt oozed luxury, as did a gold lamé coat embroidered with pearls and a black coat with feathers that hung like fringe. The overall vibe? A real-life fairytale.
