Ulyana Sergeenko Couture Fall 2014

Ulyana Sergennko

For Fall, Ulyana Sergeenko strayed from her easy-going Russian lore, instead debuting a stark, strong collection with more than just a few political undertones. She took inspiration from the former Soviet Union, weaving in her own feminine and sexy details. So how did she make her political statement? That would start with look one, which included a grand leather coat dress, and not much else. The best showing of this rebellious sentiment wasn’t the slick smattering of black leather and patent leather, but instead various options of mohair sweaters, decked with spray paint-esque designs. Such as a fuzzy sweater paired with a pair of electric blue silk pants. But there were moments of peace as well; in the form of a white burn-out gown and some wispy pieces of hay blowing in the wind. The collection boasted the luxurious details that Sergeenko is so known for, including plenty of lustrous fur options to choose from. Some mods walked down the catwalk dragging fur behind them, while others were nearly engulfed in a single, enormous, fur lapel. Also present: an array of her bustier options, cropping up on gowns in playful hues of silver, creamy orange, and very pale pink. The chicest bustier of all was draped in leather, and paired with a pair of teeny little shorts. Dotted with delicate white blossoms, the pair tied peaceful and warfare-esque sentiments of the collection together into one.
