On the boardwalk, down by the sea! OK, it was the East River, but it still felt like we were living out a song from The Drifters. Tommy is not to be outdone when it comes to major show production and this season, in continuation of his nautical Americana theme, he brought the fashion crowd to the South Street Seaport. Tommy Hilfiger and his new co-designer Gigi Hadid took over Pier 16 and transformed it into a full-blown carnival complete with a ferris wheel, temporary tattoo booths, cotton candy machines, and other carnival “cuisine” like hot dogs, french fries, and pretzels. As for the clothes? Everything that Gen-Y is craving: ’90s references, flirty mini dresses, the requisite oversized hoodie, cut-off jean shorts, and leather jackets, to name a few. Oh, and Taylor Swift showed up, adding to the already very VIP front row. Even Anna Wintour was perched front row, sipping Starbucks. To top off the magnitude of the affair, Tommy sent out doubles of 12 looks to close the show. No expense was spared! Post-show everyone enjoyed the carnival–the favorite ride was The Tornado. Fitting for the current state of fashion, non?
